We got back from a wedding today and kiddo decided that 5pm is a great time to take a nap. Not sure what that will do to bedtime but she was so dang cranky this afternoon I was just glad she finally fell asleep.
Anyhow, here are the promised pictures:
She is starting to be a bit of a ham. Here she is sitting in the newspaper bin. She threw all those papers on the floor so there would be enough room.
I think this was the prelude to a tantrum.
More on Friday, I hope!
Sorry for the late post, things have been a bit hectic. Lorelei is doing great, though! She went on her second field trip this week, to Barnes and Noble for story time (it is right next to the daycare and the library is unfortunately a few miles away). She is also saying 'hi' and 'bye' and occasionally nodding yes. She has also learned the joys of spinning in a circle until she gets dizzy.
I just realized I didn't have time to upload any photos this week so I will add them later.
Off to my next chore!
I think we forgot to mention that LV turned 15 months old on Sunday. Good job, kiddo!
Other things she's been doing: saying NO a lot (well, shaking her head no), saying UP when she wants up, calling everything that has four legs a DOGGIE, even though she was saying kitty just fine before we visited Uncle Max, pointing to whatever she wants to play with/eat/go toward, saying "MINE?" like the seagulls in Finding Nemo whenever she thinks anything should be hers, and having tantrums. The tantrums are relatively mild ones though. I think she's impatient to communicate more with us and gets a bit cranky if we don't quite understand what she wants right away.
Oh, yes, and she is also getting into baby dolls. We discovered this at Grandma and Grandpa's. If you take a toy (in this case a plastic cow) and wrap it in a blanket of some sort, she will carry it around, pat it on the back and coo at it. Then she throws it on the floor when she's done with it. That's why babies shouldn't have babies.
More next week!
Eric's done a great job covering LV the past couple weeks but he forgot to mention one very important thing...she has figured out that shaking her head means NO. So she is saying NO to us all the time now. It was a big communication breakthrough and we are all really excited that we can figure out what she DOESN'T want. Here's hoping that soon she finds the words/gestures/pictograms to tell us what she DOES want soon, though! I bet it's a binky.
Not a terribly exciting week beyond Lorelei's summer program (posted last week) and the return of Mom from Anaheim. Lorelei was more excited by the Micky Mouse bag from Disneyland than the actual stuff Piglet mom bought for her. Such is the way of the babies. We are now visiting the grandparents in Spokane for the Fourth.
I will try to post a video of Lorelei playing with our robot vacuum if I can get my camera hooked up to Grandpa's computer. In the meantime, enjoy some pictures:
This week kiddo marked a developmental milestone: moonwalking. Well, walking backwards in a manner that looks like moonwalking. She also decided to quit mom cold turkey and start spending five straight days with dad. She may not be amused. Find out next week.
Highlights of week 65 included visiting with her Grandparents in Kalispell over the weekend (no pictures sadly), standing in a box, and eating PICKLES and yogurt for breakfast. Yum! Here's some photographic evidence:
And although it is technically an event at the start of her 66th week, it was too awesome to wait a week to show. Lorelei performed in her first school program tonight (the main reason I'm late posting this). Here she is signing "The Wheels on the Bus" and "Old McDonald's Farms:"
So I didn't get either of the two jobs I interviewed for, but I did get a promotion at work to 'interim co-head of bibliographic management services.' I, along with a coworker, will be managing technical services while we run a search for the third time for a permanent person. So I will have a busy time the next six to twelve months. It will be interesting for sure--I have never supervised before and am looking forward to trying out being in management. Hopefully I won't turn into a Dilbert cartoon. But it will be good for me to have some new challenges.
Oh, and the reason it is a co-head position is because I have to keep doing my regular job on top of the new one. I get a bonus, though. I found out today that it's the equivalent of two weeks' pay. It's good that I'm not doing it for the money.
LV is 64 weeks old today. We are going up to see Grandma and Grandpa Mohn this weekend to celebrate that, and maybe also Dad and Aunt Tara's 30th birthday.
Some new things that Lorelei's been doing: She is really into climbing. She can get up into the computer chair by herself, which means that the desk and computer are no longer safe from curious baby hands. She is working on scaling other furniture items. So she is also falling a lot. But she doesn't seem to mind for too long.
She also went for her very first swim in the apartment pool!
What happened with the kiddo this week? All sorts of exciting stuff that I probably can't remember too well since I have a headache. She's been waking up a lot lately at night and not really into sleeping past five, so I have been very headachy this week. But Lorelei's been great!
Her tooth eruption seems to be over for the most part now. So now we are working on table manners!
She's been unable to play outside much because it's been snowing (SNOWING!) here and rainy and cold and miserable. But it's supposed to be nice and warm and sunny this weekend so we'll be hanging out on the lawn and the playground. More next week!
LV turns 14 months old today! She is celebrating by going on her first field trip, to Baskin Robbins.
Other things she has been doing include playing outside--she is an expert at climbing up the stairs outside our apartment, but not so good at going down--and playing with her new riding toy lion. She hasn't quite figured out that she can push it around with her feet but she's good at getting on and off (although she usually ends up backwards).
You can also see her dance a bit in the video above. More next week!
