I almost forgot. I have a photo album up from my trip to Florida. I don't have wedding pictures up yet. I didn't take any myself (I was kind of busy) and I haven't had time to get any from the relatives yet. I'll do that this week.
I'm spending my Fourth with the next President of the United States, John Kerry. I just hope he doesn't name our Governor his choice for VP. That's the rumor at the moment. I mean why else would you spend July 4 in Iowa?
Blogging is going to be light for the next few days since I'm on my honeymoon. And I have an all access pass to the exhibits if you know what I'm saying (you probally don't and your mind is dirty). I guess that is what happens when your wife makes you combine your honeymoon with a library convention. She has a full access pass that lets her into the boring stuff. I get to go see the exhibits (lots of books and book related technology). I just can't wait to get some cool libarary swag. Can you see me with my very own library magnet? I know Nils can. Hope he still has room in the fridge. (Nils, if you are reading this, you should make a website of all the refrigerator magnets we send you. Now that would be a good use of your web design skills.) Anyway, tonight it's sleeping. Tomorrow, it's Kennedy Space Center (the only place I've been too every time I come to Florida). Then its three days of being bored (with the occasional Dawn or magnet induced excitment) followed by a two day Disney-thon at the Kingdoms of Magic and Animals.
600th post!!! That's just over 23 posts a year.
So, I'm getting hitched in about five hours. It is a bit scary, but what isn't? I mean I'm scared to get out of bed most mornings because I know Lolli will be there to lick me. Cat germs are very dangerous, especially ones that have grown hardy on Lolli's tongue. I would say that getting married is far less scary then the cat's tongue. In fact, I would hardly say that I'm scared, really just nervous. I'm more worried that Samantha will get sick and not be able to go through with the ceremony. She's been running a high fever (102 degrees) for several days now. It also looks like we are going to have an indoor wedding. The rain hasn't appeared as expected, but it is very cold and windy. It could also start raining at any momment. Oh well.
I'm travelling. Why? Samantha made me. Well, that is the short story. Actually, I am presently in Storm Lake, Iowa using the internet at the public library. Samantha is attending a conference at Buena Vista Univesity. It is going to last a long time (six hours) during which I have to find ways to entertain myself. I really didn't want to drive around western Iowa by myself. It isn't quite as boring as Eastern Iowa, but it is really close. I did find a very nice town called Linn Grove. It was very green. It is along the Little Sioux River, which appears to have carved out a very nice little area for itself in the middle of lots of boring, none nice stuff. I still have three hours to go before I can pick Sam up at the University. I serioulsy have no idea what to do. I think I will stick around the library though. It is nice and I can catch up on my periodical reading.
Later this evening, we are going to head for Sioux City and a tract of virgin prairie. Tomorrow, we are going to head towards Omaha, NE driving through the Loess Hills. Sunday is zoo time and then it is back to Iowa City. Sure hope the cats are doing alright. Which also reminds me that there will be no cat blogging until Sunday.
UPDATE: I just picked up Sam that BVU and she found out how to use the internet terminals there. So I could have probally done all this blogging there (I'm doing the udpate from there). Anyway, I just wanted to say that while I was using the internet at the public library, a teenager next to me was checking out pictures of female body builders. He also kept asking me about Anime. It was really creepy. I also had lunch at Burger King and tried the new Angus burger. Crap! Total Crap! I did luck out and get two onion rings in my french fries, but the crappiness of the burger and the ten minute wait to get it negated the momentary joy of free fried onions.
The tornadoes are coming. Eek!! I don't think the bathroom is a particularly safe place to be, but it's all we have.
Blogging continues to be light as the end of the semester overwhelms my feeble attempts at having a life. I'm glad Samantha is such a wonderful person that when I mentioned the desire to buy her flowers if I had the time she recognized that it was the thought that counted. I'm blogging now because I happen to have finished a paper a bit earlier then expected. Actually, I became fed up with a paper sooner then expected and figured I'm going to have to revise it anyway so I might was well just send in what I have done now anyway. Only two and a half weeks left to go. Now I turn to grading tests, preparing a guest lecture for an undergraduate course on industrialized democracies, a poster presentation on conference committees, and buying a wedding ring. Oh, and petting the cats.
Just a note to explain why updates have been sporadic since last week and will continue to be so for the following week too. Last week, I was in Chicago at a conference and I was trying to study diligently for a comprehensive exam in American Politics that I take this afternoon. I have to be able to regurgitate just about everything in American Politics during a 4-hour closed book exam. My brain is stuffed with things like Cox and McCubbins, Patterson et al, Ansolabare et al etc. That doesn't leave much time for writing on a blog. Hopefully, I'll cat blog on Friday after missing a week :-( And then get back to normal next week after catching up on everything I've put off because of the exam.
It's Spring Break here in Iowa, although spring hasn't started yet. I'll be out of town for a few days with the little woman (Sam, not Lolli). I'm sure that you will be heartbroken to know that I will be away from the internet while I am gone. That means posting will be non-existent for the most part. I may "spring" a few surprises on you while I'm gone. Have a good weekend.
